Commissioning a paintingElizabeth Whelan accepts commissions for paintings of all types, including portraits, landscapes, still life, and maritime themes. Possible occasions for a personally commissioned painting include birthdays and holiday gifts, to commemorate a special occasion or remember a special place, to honor an individual.
The process is simple and starts with a conversation by phone or email to discuss the project, timeline, and cost. The price for a commissioned painting can vary greatly from one subject or size to the next depending on the request, so please send Elizabeth your information and she will be able to give you a good estimate.
Commissioned painting fees (non-portrait) start at $540 for a 11 x 14" painting. For portraits, please see the Portrait Fees page.
For commissions other than gift certificates, a 50% deposit is required upfront with the remainder due upon delivery. For gift certificates, the painting fee for the desired painting is paid upfront, and Elizabeth will send you a gift certificate to present to the recipient.
A commissioned painting is one of the most unique gifts a person can receive. Share the pleasure of owning an original work of art.
If possible, Elizabeth Whelan would like to work from her own reference images to create your painting. If this will not be possible for the commission, she would like to see the photos you have in advance of accepting the commission. After she develops a composition, Elizabeth will create a small sketch to show you the suggested approach before starting on the final painting.
Paintings can be delivered in person on Martha's Vineyard, or shipped nationally and internationally. Shipping and framing fees are extra.
